What we do

Senior counsel, not generic advice.

Evoke Advisory works across four sectors. Each engagement is owned by a senior strategist accountable from pitch to close, drawing on 20+ years across policy, strategy, program management and hands-on delivery. When work needs additional senior hands, those hands are practitioners Anna has worked with directly. Clients always know who is leading their work.

01

Government & Infrastructure

Nearly a decade inside the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads. Engagement Institute (formerly IAP2) accredited. Experience spanning the GC2018 Games Communication Centre, the State Disaster Coordination Centre, and renewable energy proponent work in NSW Renewable Energy Zones. The experience the biggest programs need.

Community engagement

Design and delivery of community engagement programs for major infrastructure projects. Real participation, not box-ticking. Certificate of Engagement holder through the Engagement Institute. $5B+ in projects and programs advised.

Public consultation

Structured public participation from inform through to empower. Engagement Institute (formerly IAP2) accreditation is the baseline for government and infrastructure engagement.

Government relations

Counsel on working with government at every level: ministers, agencies, departments. Backed by nearly a decade running communications inside a major state agency, including seven years at Principal level.

Infrastructure communications

Communications across the full project lifecycle, from business cases through planning, procurement, construction and operations. $5B+ in projects advised including Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 ($1.2B), Canberra Light Rail ($675M) and a $400M+ annual program.

Emergency response & disaster recovery

Emergency response communications and disaster recovery engagement delivered concurrently across multiple regions when needed. SDCC reporting experience. National Emergency Medal recipient.

Social Impact Assessment

Technical SIA and Public Interest Considerations work. Led SIA chapters for the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 business case. This is a capability that sets Evoke apart from pure PR firms, and it matters for EIS/ESIA requirements and 2032 Social Impact Assessments.

Renewable energy and RES communications

Community engagement and stakeholder communications for renewable energy proponents through scoping, EIS preparation and project development. Most recent engagement: Walcha Energy and Ruby Hills Wind, New England Renewable Energy Zone (2023-2024).

02

Major Events & Games Communications

Anna is the only boutique advisory founder in Australia who has run communications from inside a Games Communication Centre during a major international sporting event.

Games and major events

Full communications for major international events. Pre-Games planning, crisis preparedness, 24/7 operations, legacy communications. Led from inside the GC2018 Games Communication Centre.

24/7 media operations

Design, set-up and management of around-the-clock press offices for major events. Processes, spokesperson matrices, media holding lines and escalation procedures. Built from scratch and run for GC2018.

Crisis communications and preparedness

Games-time crisis communication systems: messaging hierarchies, spokesperson training and scenario planning. Developed and tested under real Games conditions, not simulations.

Transport and movement communications

Communications for the transport task at major events. This is the most operationally demanding function at any Games. Anna ran all transport communications for a ~$1 billion program and 1M+ spectators at GC2018.

Multi-agency coordination

Running communications across the partnership structures that major events need: government agencies, organising committees, venues, contractors, political players and media. Delivered from inside the Games nerve centre.

Brisbane 2032 advisory

Pre-Games positioning, procurement communications, community engagement strategy and Games-time preparedness for organisations involved in the Brisbane 2032 program. The only Australian boutique advisory founder with direct Games Communication Centre experience.

03

Corporate Affairs

Your reputation is built in the moments between announcements. And tested in the moments you can't predict.

Reputation management

Positioning and protecting organisational reputation through narrative development and alignment with key audiences. Drawing on senior advisory experience at Boeing and Phillips Group, plus $5B+ in government infrastructure programs.

Crisis communications

Crisis counsel from someone who has managed emergency response communications during two of Australia's worst natural disasters, reporting directly to the State Disaster Coordination Centre, and from inside a Games Communication Centre during a major international sporting event.

Stakeholder engagement

Mapping, prioritisation and engagement strategies for boards, investors, regulators, government and communities. Backed by experience managing relationships across all three levels of government.

Media relations

Media positioning, spokesperson preparation and proactive programs. Everything from planned corporate campaigns to 24/7 Games-time press offices.

Bid preparation and tender support

Communications strategy for clients in procurement. Tender preparation, bid communication and engagement during competitive processes. Led tender evaluation for Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 communication and engagement elements.

04

Not-for-Profit

Your mission matters too much for generic communication.

Mission articulation

Clarifying and communicating your purpose in language that works for funders, partners, government and the communities you serve. Informed by in-house experience at Lifeline Australia, where mission-driven communication meets government funding and corporate partnerships.

Funding communications

Positioning and narrative for grant applications, donor engagement and government funding submissions. How NFPs talk to government funders, how funding narratives are built, and how to manage the tension between mission-driven communication and compliance.

Stakeholder engagement

Building and maintaining the relationships that not-for-profits depend on. Boards, funders, government and communities. Most recent NFP engagement: Sandon Point Aged Care EIS for Anglicare.

Board communications

Supporting boards with clear, purposeful communication. Governance reporting, public positioning and risk communication.

Impact reporting

Turning program outcomes into stories that show funders, supporters and the public what their investment achieved.

Common questions

What organisations ask first.

What does Evoke Advisory do?

Evoke Advisory is a boutique strategic communications and PR advisory firm based on the Gold Coast. The firm provides senior-led counsel across four sectors: Government and Infrastructure, Major Events and Games Communications, Corporate Affairs, and Not-for-Profit.

Where is Evoke Advisory based and what's the service area?

Evoke Advisory is based on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Primary service area is South East Queensland (Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Logan, Scenic Rim, Moreton Bay, Ipswich) and Northern New South Wales. National engagements are delivered Australia-wide including the New England Renewable Energy Zone and Canberra. International engagements are taken selectively.

What makes Evoke different from a typical PR agency?

Every engagement is led by a senior strategist accountable from pitch to close. The person who advises is the same person who has led the program, designed the playbook and held the line under pressure. When work needs additional senior hands, those hands are practitioners Anna has worked with directly. Evoke also offers technical capabilities — Social Impact Assessment, Public Interest Considerations, ESIA communication strategy — that sit outside the scope of most PR firms.

What is the National Emergency Medal?

The National Emergency Medal is an Australian operational service medal awarded by the Governor-General that recognises significant or sustained service to others in response to declared nationally-significant emergencies. Anna Cush was awarded the National Emergency Medal for service during Cyclone Yasi (2011) and Cyclone Debbie (2017), reporting to the Queensland State Disaster Coordination Centre.

What was Anna's role in the GC2018 Games Communication Centre?

Anna was the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads representative inside the Games Communication Centre during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, on a team of communication and media representatives. She was responsible for transport media, government relations, crisis communications and issues management for a $1 billion transport program and the safe movement of more than one million spectators. She built the 24/7 TMR press office from scratch and sat on the TMR Senior Leadership Team throughout.

Does Evoke Advisory work on Brisbane 2032?

Yes. Evoke provides pre-Games positioning, procurement communications, community engagement strategy and Games-time preparedness for organisations involved in the Brisbane 2032 program. Anna brings direct GC2018 Games Communication Centre experience — the only Australian boutique advisory founder with that background.

Does Evoke Advisory work in renewable energy?

Yes. Community engagement and stakeholder communications for renewable energy proponents through scoping, EIS preparation and project development. Most recent renewable energy engagements include Walcha Energy and Ruby Hills Wind in the New England Renewable Energy Zone.

How do engagements typically start?

Most engagements begin with a conversation. Get in touch via hello@evokeadvisory.au or the contact page. Anna responds personally to every enquiry, usually within one business day.
